STGMS uses the same installation and update technology as other STScI-provided applications such as the Astronomer's Proposal Tool (APT) and Starview. It includes a pre-configured Java environment and the Adobe Acrobat Reader. The application is also less dependent on browser configuration, which should make using STGMS easier. Future changes to the application will be automatically downloaded.
Unfortunately, moving to an application also requires that we discontinue support for older MacOS systems. MacOS X is supported, but users of older Macintosh operating systems will need to upgrade to OS X.
